Info for the 2023-2024 School Year A Note From Ms. Yearsley Hello Alta Vista Community! It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! Our staff has been working hard to prepare for our students, and we are eager to be back with them on Wednesday, August 23rd, which is the first day of school. Teacher’s have already or will be reaching out to you to schedule roll-in’s this year, which provides each family with an individualized time to come to the school, drop off school supplies, and meet with the teacher. I want to provide you with some logistical information as the first day of school quickly approaches! Office Staff / Office Expectations / Nurse’s Office ## Miss KindraAdministrative Assistant ## Mrs. O’DonnellSchool Nurse ## Miss CaseyRecords Clerk Miss Kindra & Miss Casey are our go-to people for parent, student, staff, and administrative questions or support. They help our building run smooth, but most importantly, they ensure building procedures are in place for the safety of everyone at Alta Vista. With safety being our top priority, please follow the office procedures below when coming to the school. Office Procedures Office hours will be from 7:30 - 4:15. Please make sure to call the office at 307-771-2310 for attendance. Consistent attendance is critical to your student(s) progress academically and behaviorally. It is important for your student to be at school each day! All visitors are required to check in at the office when entering the building. If students are getting checked out of the building, there is a sign-out sheet in the office for them to be signed out before leaving. If you are coming to the school to go to the lunchroom, classroom, playground, etc., please know your drivers license will be scanned and all visitors are expected to wear a visitors badge while in the building. This will include the first days of school. Nurse’s Office **Mrs. O’Donnell **is our school nurse. If students have medication they need to take, a medication release form will need to be filled out and given to the nurse. All medication will be stored in the nurses office. If you have any health concerns regarding your student, please speak with Mrs. O’Donnell and your students classroom teacher. Breakfast / Arrival / Dismissal / Crosswalk Breakfast Students who are eating breakfast can arrive to the school at 8:00 AM. Students will go to the gym for breakfast. Breakfast will run from 8:00 - 8:30 AM. Arrival Students can arrive at school and go inside at 8:00 AM. Upon arrival, students will go the gym until 8:10 AM. At 8:10 AM, students will be dismissed from the gym to go outside for morning recess. The bell to start the day will ring at 8:25 AM. Please have students to school by then. The tardy bell will ring at 8:35 AM. Dismissal The dismissal bell will ring at 3:35 PM . Please check with your students teacher on which door they will exit from. Students need to leave the playground area directly following dismissal, unless they have adult supervision. This is especially important so that our after school duty teachers can safely supervise the students who are waiting for daycare vans or buses. If students wish to come back to play on the playground after school, they may do so at 4:30 PM. Crosswalk Safety Our students safety is our highest priority. We are asking for all families to help our students stay safe by slowing down, using extra caution, and being mindful of all the students who are walking to and from school. Reduced to Free Lunch Student’s qualifying for free or reduced meals in the 2023-2024 school year can eat both breakfast and lunch for free! Student’s who do not qualify for free or reduced price meals will receive 50% off breakfast through October 4th, 2023. To submit a meal application, please go to www.linqconnect.com & register! Playground Our students have recess outside every day, unless the temperature and/or windchill are below zero. If weather does not permit outdoor recess, students will do indoor recess. We have behavior expectations for the playground just as we do for inside the building. Be Safe Be Respectful Be Responsible If students have minor disagreements on the playground (such as whose turn it is) they are encouraged to use Rock-Paper-Scissors to problem solve. Additionally, at the beginning of the year, we do a school-wide expectations day, where playground safety & expectations are explicitly taught, which includes teaching our students how/when to get adults to help resolve conflict. PTO & Alta Vista Facebook Our PTO is small but mightyand they need your help! PTO will meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 5:30 - 6:15 PM in the AV library. Whether you can help with one event during the school year or have the ability to attend every meeting and volunteer at all events, your help is greatly appreciated! Please join us on** September 13th **for our first PTO meeting of the year. Please contact Crystal West, our PTO President, if you are interested in helping with PTO this year. Custodial Staff Our custodians are a critical part of our building! They work very hard for our school, and help clean and maintain the building, both inside and outside. If you see them around, please introduce yourself and thank them for their hard work! Des Hayes - Head Custodian Maria Uribe - Custodian Leslie Martinez - Custodian Extra IF YOUR CHILD WILL BE ABSENT: Please call the school (307-771-2310) and notify the office if your student will be absent. If your child takes a daycare van or bus, please be sure to also notify them. TOYS FROM HOME: Please do not allow your child to bring toys/extra belongings to school. This includes fidgets, trinkets, cards, sports balls, etc. It is difficult to keep track of extra things brought into the classroom and favorite possessions may get lost or broken. Additionally, these items can be a distraction to the learning environment. REMIND APP Our district utilizes the Remind app for quick and convenient communication. Parents will be linked to Remind through Infinite Campus, and can receive messages from the district admin office, our secretaries, district staff, classroom teachers, or myself.
